Very close to the cosmopolitan island of Mykonos, lies Delos - one of the holy islands of ancient Greece. It is an extraordinary place, with a population of 14 people but full with the remnants of ancient Greece. According to Greek mythology, it is the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis.

What makes Delos such an important archaeological destination?
The ancient private homes that have been found in a wonderful state: temples, theaters, stadiums, gyms and other monumental structures and buildings have been discovered in many places. They are so well preserved that they depict the whole glory of the ancient times. Since 1990, the island has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

In order to get to Delos you need to get to the port of Mykonos, where you can go either on foot, as its in a 10 minute walking distance (800m), or you can use a taxi service.
